Safeguarding Commitment Statement

Our
Statement
North Brisbane Weightlifting Association (NBWA) is a community-run gym committed to
creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where the safety, wellbeing, and
participation of all children and young people are paramount. Children and young people
who attend NBWA are supervised at all times by coaches and adults who are committed to
their care, development, and protection.
We are dedicated to supporting all young people who engage with our programs, including
those who may be vulnerable due to age, ability, cultural background, physical or mental
health needs, or personal circumstances. We are committed to acting at all times in the best
interests of children and young people.
NBWA offers coaching in Olympic Weightlifting, delivered within a structured, supervised
environment that prioritises safety, skill development, and positive participation. Our
coaching approach emphasises respectful relationships, age-appropriate training, and clear
supervision practices to ensure children and young people are safe, supported, and
encouraged to reach their potential.
NBWA has zero tolerance for child abuse or harm of any kind. All concerns, complaints, or
allegations relating to the safety or wellbeing of a child or young person are taken seriously
and responded to promptly and appropriately, in line with our safeguarding policies and
relevant legal obligations.
Coaches, volunteers, and anyone involved in delivering activities at NBWA have both a
moral and legal responsibility to protect children and young people from harm. This
includes taking immediate action and reporting concerns to appropriate authorities where
required.
Our safeguarding commitment is informed by the National Principles for Child Safe
